Pending Holocaust

by Patricia M. Devlin

Why did they not resist, or if resisting were so few?

Ten thousands obeying the insane orders of several score?

We wondered how they could bow their heads and go, even when they knew

The false shower heads were fake, the gas chamber a mute, devouring door.

Now the Silent Acquiescence is here again, and Judge Greer and his sort

Hold more power than President, Congress, or Governor combined.

I and a few of my people know there is no safety in our nation as Liberty finds sport

In the perfect murder: legalized and protected by Police and Court against us lined.

And I ask: “Will this be merely a repetition, a ghoulish case retried,

A mute protest screaming out against man made law gone mad and tender mercy scorned?”

Inches from where she lay a vase of roses receiving the water for lack of which she died;

I vow now: She will not go forgotten or unmourned.
