Our Lady

Dear Mark:

I am so thankful for your articles. I have many devout friends who are ga-ga over Medjugorje, and have even traveled there on several occasions. They get upset when one of our best priests reminds them that the apparitions have not been approved. I've learned simply not to bring up that subject, or to listen politely when they tell their little “miracle” stories. It's not that I disbelieve the extraordinary things that have happened to them on these visits; they are such honest, faith-filled people and wouldn't lie. But on the other hand, I feel that we all need to focus more on Jesus and the Eucharist. I love Mother Mary, but I remember that her role is to point us to Jesus. I doubt that she appreciates the inordinate amount of attention she gets if it takes our eyes off her Son.

Thanks again,

Sherry:

Thanks for your kind words. For what it’s worth, I have written a book about Our Lady which will (I hope) be out in about a year. This article is a little bit of what I've been thinking about as I write.
