Orange and Green

by Ed Halbig

Orange and green, two distant lovers,

Rejoined at summer’s end,

One brightly dying, one freshly wakened

By long awaited rain.

A blanket of warmth and nurturing food

Decay unselfishly offers;

How noble the leaf to shield nevermore

It’s perennial emerald friend.
