By Pavel Chichikov
The cougar and her kitten
Pass the workmen
On the mountain
Full noon
Their shadows shrink
The cat is big
To one lair from another
On her way
She will not kill a man or deer today
The workmen
Building walls
To keep her out at night
Yet she pads by day
With offspring death
Milk-toothed
No secrets held from us
In shadows –
Look, the sun
An honest sight
The panther, God,
With offspring Christ
Bright and big and silent
Seen by light
