Magdalen College Receives Accredition

On November 10, 2004 the American Academy of Liberal Education (AALE) voted to grant Magdalen College of Warner, N.H. full Accreditation for a term of ten years. The vote was taken by the AALE Board of Directors at their general meeting in Washington, DC and announced by Jeffrey D. Wallin, President of the Academy. Accreditation was awarded to Magdalen following an intensive self-study and independent review of the College which examined all facets of the institution including the Program of Studies, administrative policies, and fiscal practices.

Recognized by the United States Department of Education, the AALE is a national accrediting agency for institutions of higher learning that offer liberal arts degrees at the undergraduate level. “Membership [in AALE] attests to the fact that the institution meets or exceeds the Academy’s independently established Education Standards. These standards require students to complete demanding studies in the arts and sciences taught by senior as well as junior faculty.”

In an announcement to the College concerning AALE accreditation, President Jeffrey Karls reminded faculty and staff that “by meeting the Academy’s standards, parents and prospective students are assured of the excellence of Magdalen’s Program of Studies as measured against a wide and competitive range of nationally recognized liberal studies programs.” As an accredited member of AALE, Magdalen will continue to participate in a process of yearly assessments in accordance with Department of Education standards.
