King Dawn

by Pavel Chichikov

I saw a king

A long robe red and blue

With golden lilies scattered all in thread

The yellow crown of daylight on his golden head –

It was the dawn and he was kneeling

Dawn perplexed and thoughtful said –

Where and when shall I begin to fall?

A steep climb is it up for me

And blistering atop

But there's nowhere can I stop

You are a king

Dawn blessed and crowned

Now rise and see and bring

Whatever you have found

Along the way

So rise he did

Got up slowly from his knees unwilling

Climbed the blue high street

With shoes of noonlight on his feet

And they were burning

By the time the pathway fell

He'd noticed more than I can tell

Secrets, treasures left behind –

Falsity with truth aligned

Followed, walked together

The false one seemed the true one's twin

But limped a little, smiled askew

Looked grumpy though the day was new –

But truth the child kept two good feet

His smile was sweet

‘End of day at last,' Dawn cried –

Left his burning shoes outside

And with his dark blue slippers on

Took along the truthful twin

Truth alone invited in
