A 30-second television commercial by an Idaho pro-life group that mentions the September 11 terrorist attacks has been called “blatant exploitation” by pro-abortion supporters. But the group sees it as an opportunity to educate the public about the deaths of millions of innocent American children.
Since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion-on-demand, more than 40 million innocent children have lost their lives. David Ripley of Idaho Chooses Life says most Americans ignore this fact — mostly because they cannot comprehend such an astronomical number of murdered babies. Ripley's organization has unveiled a 30-second TV ad that contends that while some 4,000 people died in the September 11 attacks, at least that many deaths — and maybe more — occur every day in the United States from abortions.
While his detractors have accused him of exploitation, Ripley says he just sees it as an opportunity to educate. “We're able to say [through the ad] this is the closest analogy we've been able to come up with to explain to people what abortion is doing to the nation by our own choice every single day.”
Ripley says Americans are justifiably horrified at the carnage of September 11. But he says the ad is not designed to diminish the horror of the World Trade Center. He says its objective is to help Americans understand the mind-boggling number of innocents who lose their lives every day in legalized murders. “The most controversial thing that ad says is that every life is precious,” he says. “We're arguing in the ad that the lives lost to abortion every day are worth no less than the lives lost at the World Trade Center.”
But Ripley says there is an important distinction — the lives that are scheduled to be lost tomorrow to abortion is a choice. There is something that can be done to prevent that, he says.
