How to Eat Sensibly This Holiday Season

Why is it that a single slice of cheesecake can make you gain 2 lbs? While that may be a slight exaggeration (although I swear it actually has happened to me), it is not an exaggeration to say that the holiday festivities can be hard on the waistline. Here are a few tips to help you go into the New Year with a minimum of weight gain:

1) When you aren't at a party, make sure to eat sensibly. Drink plenty of water and eat fruits and vegetables. This is not the time to finish off a leftover plate of Christmas cookies while sitting in front of the TV!

2) Try to get regular exercise. Yes, I know this is hard with all the demands on your time and (for many of us, anyway) the cold inhospitable weather outside. But you will feel better if you get some exercise. It helps reduce stress as well as helping to work off those extra calories.

3) Indulge sensibly. I love sweets so I would never dream of telling anyone to forgo them completely unless there are medical reasons to do so. Go ahead, enjoy the goodies that the holiday brings, just do so in moderation. If you do happen to overindulge, see suggestions 1 & 2 above. They will help you get back on track.
