(AgapePress) – A California school district has refused to give in to the demands from homosexual activists.
The school board of the San Ramon Unified School District was asked by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to adopt new policies granting special rights to homosexual and transsexual students and teachers. Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute says homosexual activists wanted board members to adopt policies which would protect homosexual students from harassment.
Dacus says board members made the right decision. “School districts must adopt policies that are equal and fair to all students … are opposed to harassment of all students, and don't raise up one group of students for special protection,” Dacus says.
The attorney says too many school districts give in to the homosexual agenda without a fight.
“This is a case in point of how school districts do not have to feel compelled to give in to homosexual activists in revising their curriculum and in bringing outside speakers, etc.,” he says. “This is an example of how they can continue to serve the local community, listen to the parents, and do what they're supposed to do which is make sure kids get a good education.”
Dacus says many parents in the district were opposed to the policies because they would have protected only certain students against harassment instead of the entire student body. He also noted that concerned parents outnumbered homosexual activists by a 2-to-1 margin during a public meeting on the issue.
