Holding Back from Making the Kingdom Come?

Eph 6: 1-9/ Lk 13: 18-21

What would the world look like if God took over? That's a mind bending question, but it's exactly the question the gospels poses today: "What does the reign of God resemble?" Jesus gives a couple of extravagant examples, a tiny seed that grows into a tree, a tiny bit of yeast that makes a whole mass of dough grow large.

This is God's world, yet he lets us follow our own paths in it. There is in each of us a desire to make that tiny seed grow into a tree, and that bit of yeast enliven the whole mass of dough. To make that happen means to engage the Spirit who dwells within each of us and to look outward with Spirited hope and faith, and then to act as Jesus would act, to make a choice as Jesus would make a choice.

To make the reign of Jesus come is a lifelong task, and indeed, we will never see the task completed, as Jesus did not see the work completed.

Embrace your small part of the work that will bring Jesus' reign to fulfillment. It matters not when the work is done. It matters that you have given your all.
