He’s Been There!

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.

The fathomless paradox of the universe is that this verse is true precisely because, in his own time of trouble, God received no help at all.  When he cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” God Incarnate joined himself to every person who has ever sunk to the bottom of the pit of despair.  And so we can truly say, “If I go down to the grave, behold!  You are there!”  There is no place in human existence, however dark and choking, that God has not been himself.  And because of that, he knows the way back out and into the light of the Resurrection!  Today thank God that he has gone as far down he could go to lift us up to sit in the heavenlies with Christ!
