Her Garden

by Pavel Chichikov

for N.

My love, I saw you dressed in green

The color of new growth, new spring

You had dressed your garden on

And you were cheerful, pleased and young

And I will put my forest on

Green and blue of spruce and fir

All shadow deep beneath the sun

Where copper seams of footpaths are

There the bounds and borders meet

Between the garden and the grove,

I from under shadow greet

And you from sunlight wave, my love

Then we'll wear what we know best

And clothe ourselves in kinds of leaf,

I the forest for a vest

And you the garden of belief
