He Alone is the Lord!

Isaiah 45:22

Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

Idolatry is the basic blunder of the human race.  It is born of pride and always results in folly.  As creatures, we find it extraordinarily hard to believe — really believe — that all the beauty and glory of the world around us, the glitter of wealth, the joy of sex, the beauty of the arts, the goodness of the people that we love, the attraction of power, the pleasures of fame, and anything else we love and enjoy are, at best, only reflections of the joy, beauty, love, and power of God.  Our perennial, undying, and absolutely futile hope as fallen creatures is that surely somehow creation — and especially I myself — must have just a little bit of intrinsic glory that owes nothing to God.  The answer of today’s verse is shockingly blunt: “I am God, and there is no other.”  Today, take time to give all praise, glory, and honor to God through Jesus Christ.  He alone is the holy one, he alone is the Lord, he alone is the Most High, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
