by Pavel Chichikov
God’s mother of an infant God –
The tendon of her arm is bent
By weight of incarnated Word –
She bears her godly innocent
She is depleted, so His life
Weighs heavily upon her arm –
Receives His weight without relief,
Repels the whips of harm
Beneath her eyes the moons of age
The crescent lunas of distress –
Shield Him from a Judas rage
Defenseless Tenderness
Lay Him on an infant bed
The innocent of peace –
Shepherds are His ministers
To cover Him with fleece
Lay him on a sheet of gold
Unconquerable womb –
Death was never bought or sold
Or woven on that loom
