garland

by Jonathan Hunter-Kilmer

the palid breath

when You say now

come rest it's done

and sigh

the next will come

at Your command

as we do

in Your time

but now it is we are

with You

and breathe

Your breath

and drink

exhilarate

and feel the sleep

of honeysuckle scent

and garden rose, with ripened grapes that burst

and steam air fresh with promise, taste of heavy wine

that fills mouths, heads with You

open mouthed and open armed and open soul I wait

and all the good sweet savor strong my self will inundate
