Psalm 16:5-6
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;
thou holdest my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
yea, I have a goodly heritage.
The funny thing about our inheritance is that it is given to those who, given the choice between it and God, would choose God. The psalmist rejoices, not because he got a lot of real estate loot from the Almighty, but because he didn't. If the psalmist was a Levite he owned no property. The Lord alone was his inheritance. And that was good enough for him. St. Thomas Aquinas felt the same way. In a vision, God asked him to name his reward and he would get it. Thomas's answer was instant: "I will have Thyself." Seek Him first and all the rest, including the whole earth, will be given to you as well.
