Fight the Good Fight!

Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Yesterday’s verse looked at our freedom from the system of “this world”: that is, that cosmic system of evil that is arrayed against God and his saints.  Today’s verse reminds us that the source of the evil in this world is not natural but supernatural and that, though we are not to seek “conquest” in the worldly sense, we are most emphatically called to fight in a war.  But that war is not with flesh and blood, not with our neighbors who are made in God’s image and for whom Christ died, but with the superhuman angelic intelligences who have rebelled against God, the “powers and principalities.”  Because we are in a war, we must be armed.  But the arms we take up must be spiritual and the fight we fight must be the Lamb’s War, not our own.  Today, fight the good fight by taking up your cross and following Christ.
