TORONTO, September 7, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Rogers Cable, one of Canada's largest cable companies has just decided to offer the strongly pro-life, pro-family Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), as a digital specialty channel to its customers. Just over a month ago Rogers' spokesperson Taanta Gupta
told LifeSite that EWTN was not likely to be available this spring, however,
the Catholic network is now listed as available. Numerous requests for Rogers to carry EWTN were submitted in response to LifeSite's news report as well as the efforts of many groups including EWTN itself.
Rogers is offering all of its new digital channels, including EWTN, on a
free three-month preview for those who purchase a digital cable terminal
for $11 per month. This cost is in addition to a subscription to regular
basic service. After the initial preview period it is estimated that the
individual channels will cost $3 per month. During the preview, the
homosexual channel, PrideVision, and other offensive channels will be
available but can be blocked out in order to avoid reception.
LifeSite contacted Shaw cable and was informed that EWTN is currently not
on their digital channels list. However, the Shaw representative noted
that the deadline for additions for the fall lineup is September 17.
For information on how to acquire the channel from Rogers see their website.
