by Cameron Henderson
Once I beheld it,
I sought to hold it,
but instead put it in the window and sold it,
instead of continuing the story,
re-told it:
Without a thought I set myself
in the highest seat,
and prepared myself
for that succulous meat,
forgetting that to digest such food,
one must needs teeth to eat.
And assuming myself
one of the chosen few,
one of those sent out two by two,
I was shocked to look at my hand,
and lo, a leprous hue!
Thus my rhyme slowly began to unravel,
and lose all its strength and
Ability to travel,
all my soul found
in that tear in the gravel.
Not long as I sat there
in such embarrassing state,
(as I recall the Sun's purpulous rays,
falling in the day, late).
A soft, gentle breeze
began revealing my fate.
Not in virtue and goodness
is my life lived in,
but the rather the plaintive cry
of the man of sin,
and learned a little why
The Word came down “for us men.”
*Wonderfully Established It Anew
