Encouragement, Laughter, & Gratitude

Encouragement

Dear Catholic Exchange:

When I read your Words of Encouragement for October 24, 2001, I shouted an internal, “Hallelujah!” Finally, someone, somewhere, expressed succinctly my observations regarding the unrest in the Church today.

Too often, we look at others and decide that they are what is wrong with the Church rather than looking at ourselves. We easily forget the plank in our own eye and neglect our own conversion. That is how I would explain my experience with those who declare their allegiance to the Latin Mass as opposed to the Magisterium of the Church and the Holy Father.

I was once told that I was not humble because I did not wear a mantilla at Mass. If conversion were all about changing on the outside, then where is the store that sells sackcloths?

We are called to be united to the Holy Father and the Magisterium of the Holy Catholic Church. I salute Mark Shea, Catholic Exchange and their allegiance to John Paul II and I support their call to unity. No more civil war in the Church! If we are to grow and prosper, we must fight the real enemy. Get out that Rosary, go to daily Mass, pray for a change of heart and LOVE!

We will win only if we love.

Sincerely,

An Appreciative Viewer

Laughter

Dear Mark Shea:

I wanted to let you know that this column of yours [Courage and Laughter — Humor's Link to Character] has been well received by many of my friends. Here's a comment from a writer friend in Oklahoma City:

I loved this! Thanks for sharing.

Norman's Sooner Mall joined malls across the country and was closed for Halloween; now everyone is waiting for the Golden Gate bridge to be blown up….

Which is why I love this article–there is also a “humor backlash” going on up here, that is gaining momentum. I drove to work last week behind a minivan on which was chalked “Bin Laden eats his own boogers!” Not the most sophisticated of sentiments, but hey, it fits the general atmosphere.

Keep it up.

In the two hearts,

Bill

Dear Mr. Shea:

Great article! It had me laughing, and yes, also praising God, for only He can give us the grace to crush evil while grinning.

Keep up the great writing.

David Milavickas

Dear Bill & David:

Thanks! God is good and remains that way even when we are very bad indeed. Laughter is meant to remind us of that. Blessings on you and your families and chins up!
