O Lord of Heaven and Earth,
Of all that was, is, and will be,
You sought human birth;
Stepped out of Eternity,
To Each saying: “You have sinned
Now I will bear the Death
That is the result of Sin,
Destroying Life and Breath.”
Into Your Father's Hands
You commended Your Sweet Spirit,
But before that, into my hands
You entrusted Your Body, giving it;
And what did I and Each do
In treachery and lies,
We took He-who-is-the-Truth
Broke Him, and despised.
But in a breaking heart,
You always see Your chance.
In our brokenness, sorrowing are
The means for Your great Grace.
And in contrition, weeping,
For Your brokenness, in mine
You take my life into Your keeping
Within Your Heart Divine.
