by Pavel Chichikov
Why can't you see, why can't you hear
No light or sound for seven years?
You have no speech, no muscle tone
Except for touch you are alone
Limp you hang in mother's arms
Somnolent defenseless child,
And yet her skin on yours is warm
She strokes your forearm and you smile
Kinetic is your way of knowing
Pressure and the flux of air
All your safety in her seeing
All protection, no despair
She is your justice and your law
As if for you she heard and saw,
Attends to all except for love
For in such ways you also move
Somnolent defenseless child
She strokes your forearm and you smile
