A country music entertainer and author has published a new book blasting the Hollywood establishment for its anti-family stances.
For four decades, recording artist Charlie Daniels has sung about freedom, family, and the American flag. Now the six-time platinum record singer-songwriter has published a book called Ain't No Rag: Freedom, Family, and the Flag (Regnery Publishing, 2003), in which he cuts loose on Hollywood, the anti-war crowd, and others that he says “don't get it.”
Daniels believes many of Hollywood's elite are committed to living in darkness.
“Jesus said when He came that He was the light, and that people didn't want to come to the light. They wanted to sin in darkness,” Daniels says. “There seems to be a definite movement afoot out there to go against family values.”
And the singer believes the same spirit at work against the family is also undermining the unity of the nation. In 2001 the leader of the Grammy Award-winning Charlie Daniels Band released a song he had written called “This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag,” which not only threw down a gauntlet before America's enemies, but also reminded them of the faith that undergirds American patriotism. The lyrics state, “We believe in God and we believe in justice. We believe in liberty ….”
As he performs before American audiences, Daniels encourages citizens to support the troops who are fighting to defend American freedom. He is suspicious of the motivations of many entertainers who protested against the war in Iraq. He feels much of the anti-war movement is really just anti-Bush, and that many of the liberal celebrities who publicly protested the war were making a misguided attempt to rally opposition to the president.
“I think these people were so high profile that they thought as soon as they started this that all the people in the country were going to follow them out into the street. And I just wanted them to know that there was somebody out here that totally disagreed with what they were saying,” Daniels says.
The singer feels it is very telling that Hollywood bashes President Bush but gives a complete pass to Bill Clinton despite several foreign policy and military decisions of Clinton's that Daniels considers questionable.
“They talked about George Bush being like Hitler and George Bush does not even remotely resemble Hitler. But the same bunch of people who were so pro-Clinton never raised their voice when Clinton's military escapades were carried out,” he says.
The Charlie Daniels Band has also recorded the Freedom and Justice for All CD, a compilation of 14 patriotic songs including “This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag,” “Last Fallen Hero,” “Still in Saigon,” and “America, I Believe in You.”
