Cleaning out your health and beauty products

How long have you had that makeup? When was the last time you actually wore that tube of lipstick that looked so wonderful at the store but looked awful when you tried to wear it? Why not take a few minutes to clean off your bathroom counter? Get rid of makeup that is out of date (visit www.realsimple.com/beautydates to find out the lifespan of your favorite products.) Keep only those products that you use regularly and that flatter your appearance. Do the same with any hair accessories.

Next, attack your medicine cabinet (which, by the way, should not be where you keep your medicine. Medicine should be kept in a cool, dry environment, not in a humid bathroom.) Remove any expired products and products you no longer need or use.

Lastly, your medicines should be weeded out as well. I recently did this and was embarrassed to discover I still had medicine that had expired three years ago! While there are certain over-the-counter medicines that are always good to have on hand, they need to be checked periodically to make sure that they are still good.
