A Christian comedian and disc jockey is trying to remind believers that the Christian life should be full of joy and happiness.
J.J. Jasper is heard every morning nationwide on American Family Radio. Jasper also tours the nation as a stand-up comedian on the weekends. Now Jasper is releasing a book entitled Moses Was a Basket Case — Hilarious True Stories to Encourage and Inspire.
Jasper believes many Christians are not experiencing the true joy God has in mind for them. “I like to joke and say that sometimes Christians have faces so long they look like they could suck golf balls out of a gopher's hole — or they look they'd been baptized in lemon juice,” Jasper says.
“Actually, as a child, that's something that sort of kept me away from the church because it'd seem like that what the church folks had to offer … didn't seem real attractive to me,” he says.
Jasper says believers need to show others that following Christ is a joyous journey. He hopes the variety of true tales he shares in his book will do exactly that.
“Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, and [as] any parent with small children [knows] … you laugh lest you cry at certain moments,” he says. “But there are certain situations where you have a choice to just break down … to pull your hair out, or to be so completely stressed out, especially if you've got little ones around the house, or if you're just trying to pay bills, make ends meet — or you can sometimes, even if it's bizarre, you can see a humorous side.”
Moses Was a Basket Case is available only through Jasper's website and at his personal appearances.
