Christ Hidden in the Scriptures!

Revelation 5:5

Then one of the elders said to me, “Weep not; lo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Today’s verse illustrates a profound truth: the New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament and the Old Testament is only fully revealed in the New.  It is only when Jesus, the true Author of Scripture by the power of his Holy Spirit, opens our eyes to see Himself hidden there (as He opened the eyes of the disciples on the Emmaus Road) that we see what the Old Testament was really all about.  When Jesus the Lamb of God died and rose again, He conquered death and darkness.  And in so doing, He opened our eyes to see Him mysteriously present in the Old Testament and “opened our minds to understand the scriptures” (Luke 24:45).  So we cry out as the Emmaus disciples, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?”  Today, let the revelation of God in Christ make known to you the things hidden in Scripture by His Holy Spirit.  “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” (Proverbs 25:2).
