Chapel

By Jonathan Hunter-Kilmer

sprawling prostrate

eyelids closed

face relaxed

and spreading toes

light as balm

enters my skin

seeps through cells

and settles in

fractured thoughts

blend, melt away

fear or sorrow held at bay

by the walls of spirit made

in Your tabernacle laid

light of light of candle flame

wide are windows

walled and frame

of the doorway that You give

to a lover

You conceive

soul that rises as I pray

constant as the candle's play

love portrayed as when You hang

live and rise myself I flang

at the ground beneath Your feet

at Your skin as such is meet

in Your arms forever cling

cheek against Your chest

to sing

wordless praise and gratitude

earth bound flesh but altitude

soaring into air You breathe

passionate my heart so seethe

essence burning never dry

soaked in You I gladly lie
