Dear Catholic Exchange:
May a Catholic become a Freemason? I really need to know.

Dear Friend,
Peace in Christ!
No, Catholics are not permitted to become Freemasons. As discussed in our FAITH FACT Can Catholics Be Freemasons?, membership in Masonic associations is strictly forbidden because “their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church.”
Please feel free to call us at 1-800-MY FAITH or email us with any further questions on this or any other subject.
