Can Catholics Be Freemasons?

Dear Catholic Exchange:

I know you've covered this topic before, but I wondered if you could help me with it again. My husband just became Catholic on All Saint's Day this year, praise God. He became involved in the local Mason Lodge quite a few years ago. Now that he's Catholic, he questions this, and wants to know the history the Mason's have with the Catholic Church, and why Catholics should not be Masons. Can you help us with this?

Thank you very much,

Michelle Snyder
