LONDON — British researchers are confirming what many traditional educators already knew: that boys are able to achieve higher grades in school if they are taught in single-sex classes and given subject matter that is not primarily of interest to girls.
The government commissioned the study from researchers at Homerton College in the University of Cambridge, in order to determine why British schoolgirls now outperform their male classmates at every level, and what may be done about the trend.
The initial report summary, based on observation of four schools, said that “using single-sex groups was a significant factor in establishing a school culture that would raise educational achievement.”
