Ashcroft to Buckle Down on Internet Porn

by Bill Fancher

In contrast to the previous administration in Washington, those now in the Justice Department are making plans to go after illegal pornographers and child predators who use the Internet to reach their victims.

Attorney General John Ashcroft is increasing the number of prosecutions of illegal pornographers on the Internet. He is also targeting predators who seek out children through the Internet, intending to abuse them. He recently issued a warning to those purveyors.

“To those in the sex industry who illegally prey on America's innocence, the Department of Justice will use every resource available to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who violate the law to the fullest extent of the law,” he says.

The Attorney General says more people have been added to the effort, but he needs more help from parents. “With the help and cooperation of parents, we will not only identify and prosecute those who seek to victimize children in cyberspace, but we will prevent future children from becoming victims as well,” he says.

Ashcroft says parents need to be aware of the dangers the Internet harbors and should keep a close eye on where their children venture on the Internet. He also wants parents to report to authorities any suspicious sites of instances their kids relate to them.
