When it comes to the art of social network, I am a slow learner and a late bloomer. It normally takes me fifteen times being invited to the latest and greatest before I'll dip my big toe in and take the dive. This experience occurred this past weekend, when I finally consented to someone's "connection" request on LinkedIn. I'm now slowly at work on editing my personal profile and making connections. Like a teenager, I couldn't withstand the peer pressure when yet another "cool" person (one I admire professionally) invited me to join their network. The trick with all of these tools is to learn to use them efficiently while not letting them stand in the way of our productivity. We can become so consumed with networking online that we don't get any actual work accomplished.
I'm still untangling the ins and outs of LinkedIn, so I hope to have another update in a month or so when I am more experienced with this particular tool. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for me on LinkedIn, I'd love to hear from you. You can find my profile here.
