All Things Are Under God’s Rule!

Romans 11:33-36
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to Him that He might be repaid?” For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory for ever. Amen.

God, like any good storyteller, is passionately fond of twist endings.  A man is promised offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, but then nothing happens for 25 years – till a child is born when Abraham is a hundred years old.  A boy has dreams of being a ruler and his envious brothers sell him into slavery.  Result:  Joseph winds up as Pharaoh’s right-hand man.  Moses gives up all the power in the world and then uses his powerlessness to lead a nation to freedom.  Jesus gives up His life and His death becomes the means of life for the world.  The secret of the mystery is hidden here in plain view: from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.  There’s nothing – not one particle of space or time – that is not guided by the mysterious hand of God’s providence to His utmost glory and our good.  Even the bad things work for the good.  Today, abandon yourself to that providence and give glory, honor and praise to God.
