Activist Says Decision on ‘Virtual’ Child Porn Reflects Nation’s Moral Confusion

by Rusty Pugh

An advocate of traditional family values says the United States is “swimming in a societal tide of moral confusion.”

Bill Johnson is president of the American Decency Association. Johnson says the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to strike the Child Pornography Prevention Act came as a shock to even moderately conservative Americans. He says the decision permitting “virtual” child pornography to continue is truly disheartening.

“When the Supreme Court basically backhands earlier precedent-setting decisions that it has made over the course of many, many years … it certainly demonstrates … that it's very difficult now to even look at the highest court in the land as being a place where we are truly going to find decisions that are laden with justice,” he says.

Johnson says it is sad that the high court has succumbed to what he describes as “relative morality.”

“We continue to stand amazed that even the highest court in the land now coming to a decision such as that,” he says. “It's totally reflective now of the fact that … indeed [we] are swimming in a societal tide of moral confusion that is frequently marked by such comments as, 'What's right for you may not be right for me'.”

“It is truly troubling and concerning, and the implications are beyond our comprehension.”

According to the pro-family activist, the court's decision indicates it is in favor of catering to the current political climate.
