By Pavel Chichikkov
We meet along the trail,
Not among the dusty limestone boulders
Near Jerusalem
How many borders have we crossed
Since those leaves began
To color yellow
Between seasons, between people
Between times and places –
Boundaries
But you, my Lord, have no passport
Need no documents
And you go wherever you wish
Who can stop you, ask for papers
Hold you in one place –
You are all at once
But now you ask me for directions
The ridge road, the yellow trail
And the bridge that leads to you
And I tell you, lead you there –
I did not see you
As you are
You crossed the road, I saw you safely
To the other side –
My God, my Lord
O traveler, O precious One
It was you beneath the golden
Poplars of the harvest
