A Family Is Saved

In addition to providing resource personnel for the renewal movement in Kumasi, the community is training new leaders through their school of discipleship in the village of Akropong.

Anna prays: “Father, you are the only one who can lead us. Lead us into this work that you are going to do. Let your Spirit fill us. Make us full. We pray for the descent of your Holy Spirit.”

The evangelists encourage Timothy to go to confession and to start attending mass regularly with his family. Experiences like this are what keep the Lamb of God members going and growing! The training they have received as part of this community has infused them with boundless enthusiasm that has changed their lives! Doris and Nana explain.

Timothy is a farmer in the village of Akropong, Ghana, in West Africa. He has reached a point of despair in his life due to the troubles he is going through. Although a baptized Catholic, he has not been to church in almost 20 years.

John: “The things that we have realized, the encounter that we have had with the Lord, it urges us on to spread the sort of experiences we are sharing, and it's also in line with the Catholic Church's aim of spreading the Good News throughout the whole world.”

John: “In the first place, we wanted to train people who are in the Charismatic Renewal and then go to people who are Catholic but not active, and then with time we go to other areas on outreach to villages and other towns.”

In fact, outreach is a big part of the vision of the Lamb of God Community members. But before they hit the road to share their faith, they take time for one other very important preparation: PRAYER.

Not far away from where they are praying, Timothy has reached the breaking point. He plans to kill his wife and children this very day as a way out of his troubles.

Anthony: “What we are going to proclaim is Him as the truth, the life and the way. And He has invited us and we have experienced Him. That experience is what we are going to share with others.”

Timothy: “At this time there is no bad or any malicious thinking. There is only the Word of God that I continue listening to.”

Doris: “One thing I realized developed as we came together as a group of Christians was that closeness. You could call on anybody at any time, in time of need or even sometimes… even to share your joy or just to share something about the Lord.”

Meanwhile in the neighboring town of Kumasi, thirteen young adults from the Charismatic Renewal have felt a strong need to come together in a special community geared to helping each other grow in their Christian faith. Their desire is strengthened by a resolve to use their talents in programs of evangelism and formation. The result is the “Lamb of God” Community, a name synonymous with humility and sacrifice. John Osei-tutu is one of the original members.

And with that, the evangelistic teams head out in twos and threes into the village to share their experience with Jesus Christ. Pat and Victoria visit Timothy and his family at the shared compound where they live. When Pat shares the Good News of the Gospel message with him, his heart is moved. His plans have now changed. Timothy no longer wants to end the lives of his wife and children. He sees a way out of his despair through faith in Jesus Christ. His conversion has changed the course of his whole family.
