Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
The amazing thing about going to mass is that we are sharing in precisely the reward Abram was promised. The great reward Abram was given was not this or that piece of merchandise, but God himself, Creator of Heaven and Earth. When we receive the Eucharist, we are receiving the incarnate God himself, Jesus Christ in the fullness of his body, blood, spirit, soul, and divinity. In a way even more intimate than Abraham himself ever dreamed. Thanks be to God for the gift of himself.
