God is Faithful!

Deuteronomy 7:9

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

Yesterday we thanked God for the faithfulness of ancestors who preserved the faith and handed it on to us.  Today’s verse reminds us that they did so with such faithfulness because our God is faithful.  In an age where no image is permitted to flit across our TV screens for more than 2 seconds and where the subject of universal media worship shifts from Madonna to ‘N Sync to Britney Spears faster than Homer Simpson can channel surf, it is a deeply human comfort to know that God is there and can call us to living waters far away from the flash and hooey of what passes for “real life” at present.  Keep his commandments and you will still be able to stand when the current cultural house of cards comes down as it inevitably will.  He is faithful and he will do be there for all who call on him.
