Should you watch the movie “The DiVinci Code” starring Tom Hanks, the screen writer develops the story [untrue] that Christ married Mary Magdalene and she conceived “The Royal bloodline” in a daughter I believe from memory named “Anne”.

The fictional presentation of course is believed by many as accurately depicting the “normal” tendency of man toward bonding sexually with woman to procreate children.

What is entirely stupid about this fallacy is that Christ was Celibate and by his Supernatural being as both God and man dedicated in purity to his mission of Salvation. His pure intention was the Redemption of Souls through his Supreme Sacrifice on the Cross and logic dictates as “Spock” would say that it is entirely “illogical” that one as pure in intention as Christ would allow a woman to prevent his Holy Intention as directed by God the Father from succeeding.

Christ exhorted Peter when Peter responded["Not you, Lord"]to the revelation from Christ that he would die at the hands of sinful men and be raised up by the Father, “Get behind me Satan, for what you propose is from men and not from God”

So from your point of view, how does the DiVinci Code pervert the true and pure intention of Christ who most certainly would have responded to the filming of this stupid movie, “Get behind me Satan”?

For what you espouse as heresy is of men and not of God is what I conclude. How do you respond?

And can anyone name any one of the “Divine Mysteries of Christ” that has not been attacked by espousal of heretical men ie; Annunciation, Incarnation, Resurrection, Crucifixion, Nativity, Immaculate Conception, Redemption etc?

Is it absolutely true that from the time of Christ onward that Satan does not want us to accept literally the Divine Mysteries and so sows seeds of doubt and deceitful translations of the Biblical accounts handed to us from Saint Peter and the Apostles?

The discovery of at Nag Hammadi of the “Gospel of Judas” was no help either.

A fun read and “thinking mans” Da Vinci Code is Umberto Eco’s “Foucault’s Pendulum.” It is also not anti-Catholic and a great read. Although, like The Name of the Rose he makes sure that you are worthy to read his book by subjecting you to about 100 pages of trial.

In Christ,
Michael

Michael, I am becoming aware certainly and slowly that you are well read. I do most of my reading during Adoration hours as all other hours are spent on family.

Fortunately for me I accomplished a course in speed reading using the key word technique which allows me to “read” 100 pages in about 15 minutes.

I will look in our library to see if either book is available.
Thanks for your tips.

I tend to read a lot. I have a pretty good collection of theology books, writings of the fathers, and various reference works. I also pre-read all of the books that my kids are reading if it is an author with whom I am unfamiliar.

I only speed read when looking at analyst reports, news stories, and case law.

In Christ,
Michael

Michael, Speed reading also works on works of theology and the Bible very well in fact Saint Peter Damian wrote that contemplating Christ is like a fish [we are fish] in water that jump above the water every now and then and fall back into the water to swim with the rest of the fish.

His analogy is beautiful expression of contemplation which only occurs at express moments of our lives and usually after we have endured much suffering. Pope/Saint/Doctor Gregory made the same analogy when he told the monks, “Do not think that you can avoid work by saying you go to contemplate”.

The work must be done first as God did when he created the world in six days and on the seventh day He rested and contemplated what He created. In the same way man works six days then contemplates on the seventh.

Speed reading is a method of looking only for those specific words or phrases which enlighten our souls and magnifies the Lord through our beings. Much phraseology is redundant while few words leave a lasting impression on our hearts and soul.

This is what Saint/Doctor Peter Damian refers to in contemplation. Saint Peter Damian was the inspiration for Saint Francis who modeled his monastic life and hermitage after Peter Damian using the speed reading method to filter out what is redundant to find the pearls of wisdom which become the guiding force in our contemplation.

Hence Saint Francis filtered and boiled the Scriptures to single guiding phrases or words like: “Poverty my Bride”, “Brother Sun” “Sister Rain” almost in a sort of Native American type of simplicity which they[native American] developed into “rain dance” and “sweat lodge” and “war paint”

I prefer the method of word grouping - spotting three to ten words as a unit. I’ve found that the other method - especially in reading philosophy, theology, and translations - leads to errors of understanding.
