A reporter recently called me about Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. “I understand he’s against contraception?” she asked me.
“Well, sure,” I responded. “He’s Roman Catholic, after all.” The reporter could hardly believe it. Nothing seems to work up our secular culture like matters of sex and birth.

It’s not often when a paragon of decorum, namely, Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik, publishes a letter in his diocesan newspaper with a title like, “To hell with you.”

This isn’t the place to list every objection I might have to Mayor Bloomberg’s policies, but most notable is his unwavering stance in favor of abortion. Making it worse is that Bloomberg is a high-profile member of the Republican Party, which has become the pro-life party in America.

Those letters, “D” and “P,” have special meaning in our household, standing for “Divine Plan.” Bill Clark, a devout Catholic, 80 years old, who lives in California, has taught us a lot about the “DP.” Clark was the closest adviser to President Ronald Reagan. More than any other figure, Clark helped Reagan peacefully take down the Soviet empire.

Two friends of mine, both dads in their 40s, were complaining about their seventh-grade daughters going to a dance at the public school. Both of these attractive young girls had dates, and with nice boys. But both dads feel their daughters are too young to go to a dance. They’re right.

Christopher Hitchens, one of the world’s best-known atheists, author of bestsellers with titles like God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, has left us. He died at the age of 62. And he departed without, apparently, ever changing his mind on God—at least to our knowledge.

Planned Parenthood has completely lost it (assuming it ever had it). Once again, the abortion provider is celebrating the birth of Christ with its annual Christmas-time “Choice on Earth” campaign. Yes, that’s right, Choice on Earth. You can’t make this up.
