Alas, I see no evidence that the bishops themselves recognize their own complicity in bringing about the present state of affairs.  Church leaders continue to assert that “universal coverage” [aka socialized medicine] is a proper objective based in our teachings.  Nor do I see any evidence that they are aware that, in regard to the harm inherent in socialized medicine, that as bad as the HHS mandate is, we ain’t seen nothing yet.  Wait till the full force of socialized medicine takes hold, and health care must be rationed in favor of preferred categories of citizens.  We have a tsunami of new life issues bearing down on us with destructive force, and the bishops seem unaware of it.  Have they not observed the harm brought about by N.I.C.E. in Britain or the euthanasia movement in Holland–both predictable adjuncts to socialized medicine?

Without such politically-determined methods of rationing health-care coverage, a socialized-medicine scheme like Obamacare goes broke quickly.  (If care is rationed, it goes broke slowly–passing on the cleanup task to the next generation of politicians and citizens.)  Thus, it is inevitable that, for example, care will be massively withheld from the elderly.  The government can hardly resist this–it provides a double fiscal benefit.  From lack of health care the elderly die off early, thus freeing the system from giving them more care, AND they stop receiving Social Security payments, thus helping delay the bankruptcy of that system.  What an evil genius Obama is–and what hapless collaborators are the bishops of the USCCB!
