[...] With the continued emphasis in the headlines of the fact that humans share such-and-such a percentage of their genes with this or that organisms, I bring up my continued reminder that humans share one-hundred percent of their elements with rocks. Yet humans are not the same as rocks, and neither does a large amount of shared genes with sponges, apes, or any other organism mean that humans are merely the same as these organisms. See my article on the genetics of humans and viruses at Catholic Exchange for more. [...]

A philosopher once said, "The man who would destroy something to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom." This article gives a great illumination to that truth. Thank you.

A computer virus and a highly stable operating system are both made of zeros and ones in binary code. They are quite different in what they do. Likewise, a defective computer program can have exactly the same lines of code as one that works properly, but the one that works properly has the lines of code in a more logical sequence. In another case I had while an engineering student, I spent all day debugging thousands of lines of code because the program was not working correctly, only to find that there was a typo in the code where I needed to replace a minus sign with a plus sign. The defective and proper operating programs were the same except for that one character, and that made all the difference.

Hence, even if a human being had 99.9% of their genes in common with an ape, from a physical perspective, that 0.01% makes all the difference.
