God is Not Like!

1 Corinthians 16:14

Let all that you do be done in love.

Today’s verse does not say “Let all that you do be done in like”.  Love means self-offering for the good of another.  It may be accompanied by warm and fuzzy feelings but it need not be.  Loving your neighbor does not mean liking him necessarily.  It means desiring his good and acting so as to help him attain that good.  Likewise, loving God does not mean feeling perky and neat all the time.  It means obeying God and doing what he says to do.  Do all that you do in obedience to God and with the desire for the good of your neighbor and you are living like a saint.  But remember: there’s no way you can do that without God’s constant help.  So seek first the kingdom of God and all the treasures of love will be added to you as well.  God, who is Love, not mere Like, will give you his Spirit of Love and make you glorious.
