At the heart of the Christian Faith is a great and terrible sacrifice, the death of God's only Son for the sins of humanity. Islam, if I understand correctly, portrays God as an authoritarian who makes demands of his people. These two fundamentally different worldviews are the reason that Christianity and Islam can never be reconciled, and the Islamic worldview is the reason that Islam spawns so much violence. There has been Christian violence in the past, but Christianity contains within itself the seeds of its own moderation, that is, the Sacraments. Islam has no such moderating influence within itself. Yes, there are true Muslims who seek peace and nonviolence. But it is Islam itself that is the problem. I don't think there's any alternative explanation.
