Great article! We must stand up for what we believe in! We can also support non-profits that function under our convictions. Here is one that I really believe in! http://cli.gs/z3AtaY/

Unfortunately, our bishops are ambivalent. They are just now coming to a point of urging us to oppose this initiative, but as often is the case, it's too little too late.

They apparently have lobbied year after year for some form of socialized medicine so that all would have health care coverage. They say they are advocating for those who need charity. But they are advocating for a faux charity, an institutional charity from the institution which is least capable of charity--the federal government.

Having lost their moral authority to request real charity from their flocks, they go to Washington to demand "charity."

Having squandered their authority in the public square by misguided exhortations about economics and world politics, they think they can influence the government to remove its funding for abortion. They are "waiting" for their political cronies to "act in good faith."

If they now get their long wish, and the country is plunged into socialized medicine, they will find themselves enmeshed in overwhelming life issues at the beginning of life and at its end. They will also find that such a plan really does little or nothing for the poor, while making the whole culture less healthy.
