What does this have to do with our Catholic faith?

Well, we subscribe to a principle called the "preferential option for the poor." When we do anything which hobbles the economy, we harm the poor disproportionately. In the case of C&T, there will be fewer jobs and higher energy costs. We rich (including most of US's middle class) will mostly be inconvenienced. However, the poor will be radically harmed--when their costs for transport and heating, cooking, etc go up by 50-100% as a result of this evil legislation.

We also have a God-given duty to exercise stewardship over the environment. C&T interferes with doing that duty, because it wastes our culture's resources on a non-solution to a non-problem. This takes resources away from environmental initiatives which really would help the environment. We've seen environmental hoaxes before, but never on this scale. We need to be discriminating, and not wasteful of resources on environmentalist enthusiasms which mean little or nothing.

To take immediate action such as C&T to alleviate a theoretical issue which may or may not be a problem in 100 years, when we can predict with certainty that there will be catastrophic economic consequences to our most vulnerable people--is that not the epitome of flawed public policy? In the name of God, is it not right for us Catholics to stand up in opposition?

It should come as no surprise that the EPA lowballed the cost of C&T, by about 50%.
