Good stuff, Mark. A lot of hard-won insights there, at least they were for me. It's funny how people consider themselves too "sophisticated" for historic Christianity but end up embracing things that are palpably foolish. And that applies to both the credulous and the "skeptics." Skepticism is selective.

This is very good and reminds us that there is discernment in knowing the actions and will of God, but then there is the counterfeit (the devil's deceptions) that we need to be on guard against. Unfortunately whole nations have and can be deceived so our spiritual ear (our discernment) needs to be in close tune to the Lord's voice, through continuous prayer, reading and knowing scripture and abiding in the Church. I like your dissection of the thinking process and the pitfalls that we may encounter. In our reasoning we can (and should) be open to God's input for His Wisdom and Knowledge is infinite... to me it looks like you have been given that here.

I wanted to say this reminds me of the whole Harry Potter craze, where so many were jumping on board thinking it was wonderful how kids were reading more and some parents were even attributing the books to some sort of good religious training... years later many Catholics and others see just how deceptive the devil can be in fooling us by offering the "parodies of good things" as a counterfeit for what is really Good. I see our children and the Church as the devil's priority of attack as he can do the most harm.
