The practical reason: as the article points out, the idea of specifying one&#039;s own contribution as earmarked for &quot;good&quot; projects simply doesn&#039;t work in practice.  The organization simply rebalances the allocations of all its other income, with the result that pro-abortion projects get more money.  The practical result is that funds from Catholic organizations end up promoting abortion.

The symbolic reason: the spectacle of Catholic organizations contributing to pro-abortion groups is a scandal in itself.  We Catholics should be particularly sensitive to the power of symbol (cf the sacramental system!), and it should be obvious, without any further question, that giving to these organizations is a scandalous policy.
