Mary, agreed -- but let's not jump into some premature/immature comparison of Vietnamese communism to our current struggles and conflicts. I don't get the impression Dr. Gregg is suggesting that whatsoever.

I wasn't as interested in provoking a conversation about our past in Vietnam as about our future under the current regime continued. Here's the money quote I think:
___________________________

By definition, no political program built upon an explicitly materialist viewpoint can consider itself limited by the idea of an innate human dignity, or anything suggesting a more-than-flesh-and-blood dimension to human life.

This is one reason why Marxist regimes are invariably hostile to religious belief. Another is the fact that some religions – such as Christianity – embody the insistence that there are inherent limits to state power, including that exercised by the “dictatorship of the proletariat.” To accept the notion of religious liberty, grounded in the duty of all people to seek the truth, is to accept the limited state. And that is something that no Communist government can ever truly acknowledge.
________________________________

The Obama administration is trying to coopt religion right now. But there are hints already that the fangs will come out if they don't get what they want.

The most disastrous thing about the election of 1960 was that Lyndon Baines Johnson became VP. Nobody could have won against Kennedy's VP, no matter who it had been, in 1964; but it's very telling that Johnson couldn't win against even Nixon, in 1968.

And yes, I blame Johnson completely for the horrid way the war played out. Ford was gutless too, but really, I don't think Johnson could have handled Viet Nam worse if he had tried.

In the meantime President Obama is attempting to get legislation through your congress that will effectively requisition Catholic hospitals as abortion clinics. This is what will happen if he is successful in implementing FOCA by stealth, and getting his Obama Deathcare policy through.

Maybe you Americans should have fought harder in the Vietnam War.
