<description>But it&#039;s sinful when you think, if only the taxes were not so high, many of these people WOULD still be able to meet their mortgage obligations and would not be foreclosing. I know at least 3 people who lost their house because the tax rate pushed their monthly payment into the stratosphere, and they simply couldn&#039;t do it.

People are loosing homes left and right in my area. I&#039;ve been helping find homes for misplaced pets, so I know. My area was the epicenter of the mortgage scheme where a house would be assessed at 25 percent above it&#039;s actual worth, sold, resold, and reassessed again causing a really strange housing bubble that predictably popped.

*Everyone* knew that these values were overinflated, yet the county and state went ahead and raised taxes according to these new hyper inflated values till they went up so high, people who were barely making it and even some who had a handle on their situations, suddenly found themselves not being able to pay.
My husband and I are staggering under the weight of it, but we are getting by, barely.

No-one address&#039;s that.

On top of this, my town tripled the assessments against each homeowner to pay for sewers, WHILE town tax monies are being mishandled. Houses that would be normally in a reasonable market worth $200,000 are now assessed at $50,000, yet are still taxed at the higher rate.

I can&#039;t help but think of those who paid 400 K for houses that on paper are being assessed at $50,000, yet they are still paying taxes for a 400K house.
People are walking away from this area left and right because of many reasons...mismanagement AND FRAUD ON THE PART OF THE TOWN, COUNTY AND THE STATE is an intolerable situation.
